“I will exercise more” preserves a decision for later. “After I close my laptop at 6pm, I will put on my shoes and walk for ten minutes” links an observable cue to a defined response.
Implementation-intention research has found useful effects in some settings, but it is not magic. One randomised physical-activity study found no overall effect at six months and a benefit only among participants whose intentions were unstable. Treat the plan as a testable design, not a guarantee.
